Farmer Bluey, the Family Wedding, the Haircut and Horse Riding

For the last 3 or 4 days, Bluey has been educated in Basic Farming 101. Kim & Rhonda have a couple of Quarters that had been sown for grass that they are changing over to crops (each quarter is 160 acres). To enable it to be prepared for crops, there is a lot of work to be done. The first stage is to disc up the field. That involves driving around and around the field, at 3mph with discs on the back of the tractor turning up the ground. To give you an idea of how riveting this process is - it took around 30 hours to disc one quarter - once. It now needs to be cross cut a second time, before being cultivated so that it is ready for seeding next spring. Thankfully there is a lot of snow cover in the meantime to slow down weed growth. The good news is that the discs get lifted slightly for the second disc run meaning the tractor can now be cranked up to a speedy 5mph. Believe it or not, that will make a massive difference.

On Saturday evening, we were invited to a Wedding Dance at nearby Cut Knife. It was the wedding of the son of Kim's cousin, Larry. I must say, it was the first time we have ever gone to a wedding, only knowing about 2% of the guests, but as you may be able to imagine, by the time the wedding dance was over, we had met more like 90% of the people.

 The Bertoia's & Flanigan's before the Wedding

Kim, Scott Serafini, Brayden (some of you might remember him
- he stayed with us for around a month in Australia last year) and Bluey

Brayden, Kim's dad Reno and Holly's son, Stephen

 Rhonda with Rhonda Serafini

Gena with Nic

We got home from the wedding at around 3am but by the time we had skyped Adam, H and the kids back in Australia, had a couple more drinks and chatted a bit more, it was 5.30am with the sun well and truly up. Of course Kim sees this and states - 'The sun is up, start of the work day' and jumps on the quad bike and heads out to the field to continue discing. Bluey went to bed with a plan to be up at 9.00am to take over from Kim on the tractor - he managed to get out to the field by 10.00am.

Riley decided that 3.30am that it would be a good time for a haircut (he got no arguments as his hair was out of control) and Kim & Taylor decided they would be the Barber's - with the following result.

Believe it not - everyone agreed that this was actually an improvement. The following day, Gena took Riley and Bailey over to Brayden's mum & dad's (Bonita & Lorne's) place to catch up and to also do something with this head. A definite improvement but still a rude head.

Keep in mind, that is only half of the hair

Riley decided to keep a short mohawk

Whilst at Lorne & Bonita's the boys were taken out for a ride on their horses. Riley & Bailey only rode for about an hour and have not stopped whining about their sore butts since. I guess Bailey does have some sort of reason to complain? I am pretty sure that the boys have now covered off every mode of transport possible and we are only half way through our trip?

Okay, we are off to Shell Lake for a few days to warm up for the Bertoia Family reunion, so we won't be posting for a couple of days. Have a great 40th Birthday party Cheridee, we will be having a couple for you.
