At the tail-gate party with some of our new friends
After an hour spent there we high-tailed it into the stadium since the game was nearly ready to start. As you aren't allowed to take anything into the stadium - (including back-packs, water bottles and signs) Bluey had to sneak our sign to us through a hole in the gate.
Our seats were the best seats I have ever had in any sporting event. They were easily the best seats on the ground, far enough around that the uprights and the net doesn't get on your way, and the side-line players don't get in your way like when you sit on the 'wings'. Before the game even started a kicker kicked the ball straight to me, I was hoping that like the baseball, I could keep the ball - but eventually I had to give it up, unfortunately!
The JETS had a terrible pre-season, scoring only 1 touch-down in 4 games, and the Quarter-Back that scored the touch-down wasn't even a starter! I was hoping just to see 1 touch-down to be honest... The stadium filled up in no time and just before the game the JumboTron cut to JETS fan that seemed to be controlling the crowd, all of a sudden he went up and the whole crowd went up in a chant that went: J - E - T - S, JETS, JETS, JETS! They did that twice before the game and already the atmosphere was out of control, the crowd was nuts!
Could we have been any closer to the Cheerleaders?
The Buffalo Bills came out to boo's, and then came the smoke, fireworks, and the huge flags - here came the JETS! We didn't have to wait long for the action to heat up - 3:00 minutes into the game and the JETS had scored the first touch-down, it doesn't get any bigger then that! The chant was echoing around the ground, any Bills fan would have felt like absolute crap! That wasn't the only score for the half though, the jets went on to score 27 points, (2 touch-downs, 2 field-goals) to the Bills 7 points (1 touch-down).
After trading for Tim Tebow in the off-season, all JETS fans wondered who was going to be starting QB this season. On the first play, what do the Jets do? Send out both Sanchez AND Tebow of course.
It was Sanchez though who took the first snap, with Tebow lining up at wideout
But a couple of plays later, Tebow was at QB with Sanchez lining up in the wideout position
Now in our family, our favorite JETS player is actually a defender - but he is widely regarded as the best in the league!! Darrelle Revis is his name and it didn't take him long to show us why he is so regarded, captured expertly here by Bluey, intercepting a pass from the Buffalo Bills QB which led to a JETS touchdown.
In the half-time entertainment JETS legend Curtis Martin (who a few weeks back was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame) had his number retired by the JETS. That was great, but all we really wanted to see was some more JETS Touchdowns. Every field goal and point-after, we were there on the big screen with our poster waving (and apparently on TV as well, although we haven't seen footage of the game.
In the 3rd quarter the Jets went on to score another 2 touch-downs to 1 make it a blow-out lead of 41-14. Unfortunately in the last quarter the sting was out of the game and the crowd and atmosphere died off, the Bills scored 2 cheap touch-downs which got things interesting again before the Jets responded to score the final touchdown. Although the end score would put a smile on any Jets fan's face, Jets 48 - Bills 28.
Now, whilst we were at the football, Genna was supposed to be watching the Men's US Open final at Flushing Meadows. With the fickle NY weather pushing it back a day, she was left to her own devices as to how to fill in her Sunday. Genna, being Genna, decided to jump on a bus into Manhatten and spent her day taking in Broadway, Times Square and all that central NYC had to offer. Whilst in there, she met some people who were going to the theatre, so she thought she might as well join them. Apparently, you can't doing New York without seeing a Broadway Musical?
Nice Work if you can get it........ starring Matthew Broderick was the play Genna went to see
We were home before Gena and then I was devastated to find out we had to get up at 6:30am so we could do a tour of NYC tomorrow. That time hasn't existed on our clocks all trip - ouch!
